"It travels? What's so special about a travelling box?"he asked. He could think of plenty blue boxes that could travel. All you had to do was pick it up and carry it to wherever you wanted it to be. Unless...this guy meant time travelling. But who had ever heard of a time travelling box? No, forget that. Time travel was not possible. That was something that you read about in science fiction novels or in those moving picures that they have come out with. Time travel wasn't real!

Suddenly, Indiana realized that he hadn't introduced himself to the man. Something that he had forgotten to do almost everytime he had met someone knew there at the mansion. Oh, well. It wasn't that important. "Uh, by the way, I'm Indiana Jones," he said, reaching out his left, uninjured hand to shake the man's hand.

"This one it... ah... it travels. Through... ah. time and space." He braced himself, ready for the customary reaction he received when he told people he was a time traveler. And a space traveler. And had been considered a god on more than one occasion, and a neuissance more than that. But oh no. Time travel was real. Very, very real.

The Doctor reached out and took Indiana's hand. "Indiana Jones," he repeated. "Nice to meet you. I'm The Doctor."

Indiana's eyebrows went up when he heard the man's response to his question. He took his uninjured hand and brought it up to rub his eyes. He opened his eyes and looked at the man. "So, you're telling me that this box you have...can travel through time?" he asked, skeptically. He highly doubted this, but of course, he doubted many things that he later found out to be true.

Indiana smiled at the man and shook his hand. "'The Doctor?'" he asked. "That's...your name?" He didn't want to sound rude, but The Doctor wasn't a name...it was a title.

The Doctor nodded. "Yes. I suppose I am. But there you have it. I travel through time and space the same way some people drive cars. Well, now I've told you that and it'd be best if you forgot." Getting a reputation as a time traveler was a little difficult. Sure, it was helpful when it came to dealing with various world governments, and he was infamous within the universe for being The Doctor, but really, when dealing with individual humans, it was just difficult.

The Doctor nodded. "Well, no. I have a name-name. But no. Can't use that. I'm The Doctor." It didn't make much sense. But no one knew his real name. No one called him that. He certainly didn't give it out like the time of day. No. He was The Doctor. Or, well, John Smith if he needed it.

That's it. This guy was definitely an odd person. "And why's it so important that I forget it?" he asked, grinning. He highly doubted that anything bad would happen to him if he remembered what he heard. Not that he really wanted to ...at all. He hated the idea of time travel, in most cases. He liked the time that he was in just fine, with a few exceptions. He could definitely learn to live without Hitler and the Nazis. They were two bad things about living in the 1930's.

Indiana shrugged. "Would 'Doc' work for you?" he asked, grinning. The Doctor just sounded and felt weird to call someone.

The Doctor raised an eyebrow. No one had ever asked him that. Then again, he didn't often tell them he was a time/space traveler, and he traveled in a blue box. That just never happened. But there was a first time for everything. "It's not that," he said. "The government in most places knows I exist now- something involving a big spaceship destroying part of Big Ben on Christmas kinda ruins things like that. Besides," he said patiently, "everyone wants to know what happens in the future. Flying cars, all that."

Flying cars, for the record, did exist in the future.

The Doctor echoed Indiana's shrug. "Works well enough." No one really called him 'doc'. It was just 'Doctor' or 'DOCTOR!' or 'Alien-boy'.
